The Applewood Swim Team is a stroke based program that works on the skills and techniques necessary to be successful in the sport of swimming. It is the coaches’ goal to have all swimmers master the needed skills in order to swim the competitive strokes legally and successfully. Programs & Events at Applewood

Our Big and Little Apples

Big Apple – Little Apple Program

Applewood Swim Team is proud to present the Big Apple – Little Apple Program. This program’s goal is to foster relationships between the younger and older team members through regular interaction. Members of our Junior Coaching staff serve as big brothers and sisters to younger members of the team. Throughout the season they have an opportunity to take a mentorship role in the lives of these young swimmers.

Big Apple’s assist Little Apple’s throughout the season in various ways – showing them through action what it means to be dedicated, supportive teammates and assist the coaching staff in providing additional guidance on how meets, events, and practices are executed. Swimmers under the age of 10 are paired with a big brother or sister at the start of the swim season. In return, we encourage Little’s to get to know their Big’s and cheer them on during their races!

Bring the Wood Night

Bring the Wood Night is a special annual team event which pits teammate against teammate to compete for the ultimate prize, the Grit Championship. Teams are led by our Junior Coaches and are made up of each age group ranging from 5 to 18. Six teams will compete in 5 different relays which incorporates swimmers of all ages as a leg of the relay.

Were excited to announce that in addition to the Grit Championship, the winners of this year’s Bring the Wood Night will be able to pick the theme for a swim meet! At the conclusion of the special final relay, there will be pizza party for all swimmers involved. We encourage the parents, families, cousins, and friends of our swimmers to join in on this fun night!

Junior Coaches

Applewood Swim Club has the very rare distinction of having swimmers who serve in leadership roles on the team. After completing their 7:40 AM Practice, Junior Coaches help throughout both the 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Practices. They are constantly in the water demonstrating to younger swimmers and support all three coaches in a number of ways. Junior Coaches also take a large mentorship role through the Big Apple- Little Apple Program, which pairs junior coaches with younger members of the swim team as a big brother or sister.
